What To Take Glamping - How To Pack Like A Pro

Writer's picture: Marsh Farm GlampingMarsh Farm Glamping

Do you yearn to immerse yourself in the great outdoors, but reeaaally don’t fancy the idea of roughing it? Does the idea of pitching a tent, unrolling your sleeping mat and firing up the camping stove fill you with a cold, quiet dread? Then fear not, because glamping is the answer to all your alfresco aspirations.

As you’ll know if you’ve read 'Glamping - What is it and why do you need it in your life?', glamping is short for ‘glamourous camping’ and glamping structures come in literally all shapes and sizes. Fancy staying in a double decker bus or recommissioned tank? There’s a glamping site out there, somewhere, where you can do just that.

Not quite a double decker bus, but this would make a perfect glampsite.

The beauty of glamping is that in the most part, everything is set up and ready to go upon your arrival, and effort and input required by your good self is virtually nil. Just rock up, unpack and settle in. However, you may still be wondering what to take glamping? The answer is that really depends on what is provided by the site in question. Some glamping accommodations provide everything from champagne on arrival to Egyptian cotton linen and fresh towels, whereas others may just provide a ready made shelter with bed and sink.

In this post we’re going to take a look at some of the essentials that you should pack, when you head off on your glamping adventure.

Here at Marsh Farm Glamping we’re all about the luxury. Many of the things suggested on our What To Take Glamping list are already provided in our shepherd huts, which means that you have even less to worry about when you get here. So, I’ll add a note at the end so you know exactly what to expect when you book a stay with us.

Footwear:

Many glampsites are located in rural areas – they may be down a track, or across a field, or even up a mountain. Regardless of their location, however, there will usually be great hiking and walking opportunities close by. Footwear to think about, therefore includes:

  • Wellies – for tramping through long wet grass or across fields

  • Walking boots – for testing out the local routes and trails

  • Slippers – for cosying up to the log burner after a hard day exploring

  • Flip flops – for ease of getting in and out of the outdoor bath or hot tub

Note hare at Marsh Farm our huts are located in their own private meadows. Access is either across the meadow, or via the secret woodland walk. And there will be sheep present to keep you company - so we suggest suitable footwear when you arrive!

Survival Essentials:

  • A torch – in case the facilities are outside

  • Towels, linen and loo roll – make sure to check if these are provided!

  • A charger for your devices

  • A power bank or solar charger if it’s an off-grid site

  • A speaker – for listening to your favourite tunes under the stars

  • A fleece or warm clothes for sitting out under the stars

  • Logs, matches and firelighters – for an outdoor firepit

  • Waterproofs

  • Bin bags

  • Loo roll

  • Washing up kit

  • First Aid kit

Culinary Essentials:

  • Marshmallows – for toasting over the fire or popping in your hot chocolate

  • Tea, coffee and hot chocolate

  • Milk

  • Breakfast – to get you started on your first morning

  • Cooking oil and butter

  • Condiments, salt and pepper

  • Ice blocks and a cool box

Those Little Luxuries:

  • Your favourite tipple

  • Magazines and books

  • Puzzles or board games

  • Tablet or laptop – you may need to download your favourite shows if it’s an off-grid site

  • Hot water bottle

  • Binoculars

  • Wildlife identification books

  • Star gazing identification charts

The list really is endless. But this all sounds rather a lot like camping, not glamping right? Well fortunately, here at Marsh Farm Glamping, most of this is already here ready and waiting for you. Not only are our two huts fully equipped with king-sized bed and Egyptian linen, but they both come with an ensuite bathroom with flushing loo and rainfall shower. We provide fresh towels, hot water bottles and a fully equipped kitchenette. Fridge freezer for keeping those essentials cold – check. We also stock the huts with loo roll, washing up equipment, tea towels, torch, first aid kit, books, blankets, sheepskins for the outside chairs, and logs, firelighters, matches and kindling for the log burner.

We can provide Breakfast Hampers and BBQ Boxes on request full of local and farm produce, but rest assured that there will always be fresh milk in the fridge and tea, coffee, hot chocolate and marshmallows ready and waiting, along with salt and pepper.

As our huts are on solar power they only have USB ports and no 3-pin sockets so make sure to download your favourite shows or even better – why not use your glamping getaway as a digital detox?

So when you’re planning a trip and ask yourself the question of what to take glamping remember – it really does depend on where you’ve decided to book. And if you decide to book with us you’ll have plenty of extra space in your bags for all the little luxuries that make these trips so special.
